Production Paolo Basso

My repositioning from sommelier to producer was a journey that brought me back to the origin of my passion and proved to be a new growth and a continuous discovery, culminating in the creation of my wine labels.
After winning the title of Best Sommelier in the World in 2013, I chose to deepen my connection with the Ticino territory, turning my passion into a new entrepreneurial adventure.
In my wines, I brought the experience accumulated over the years and my relentless pursuit of excellence. Among the creations I am pleased to offer, we find:
Il Fiore di Chiara is a typical merlot vinified as a white wine, completed with 10% Chardonnay which brings structure and intensity and 10% Sauvignon which gives aromaticity and freshness. It is a fresh and floral white that accompanies aperitifs, appetizers, and light fish first courses.
Il Bianco di Chiara is the elegant and complex white Merlot. It was with this type of wine that I amazed my clients who agreed to taste a wine blind when I was a sommelier. Surprised by the quality, they thought it was a French wine and once they discovered the wine, the surprise was great to find a Merlot Blanc de Noirs from Ticino.
It is a white Merlot with great personality and structure that accompanies quality cuisine based on fish and white meats.
The Rosé is a rosé of Merlot partially aged in oak barrels that evokes freshness, lightness, and good structure. It accompanies light summer cuisine and has the advantage of also pairing well with red meats if on hotter days a rosé with character is preferred over a red.
The Bouquet of Chiara recalls the bouquets of flowers that Chiara used to pick as a child in the meadows of Ligornetto. It is the traditional and versatile Merlot that accompanies the typical local cuisine: cold cuts and cheeses, risottos and pasta with sauce, grills, roasts, stews, and braised meats. It is the traditional red wine that always finds its right place.
The Red of Chiara is my flagship red, structured and persistent. Dedicated to my daughter Chiara's red hair, it is the wine that marked my repositioning as a producer.
It is 80% Merlot, completed with 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc. I interpret it as a future projection of the viticultural potential of Ticino which, with climate change, proves suitable to excellently express these last two Bordeaux-origin grape varieties.
It is a structured and elegant wine with great personality, which accompanies meat dishes of quality cuisine. It particularly enhances risottos, beef, lamb, kid, and aged cow cheeses.
The Samhàin takes its name from the Celtic New Year celebrated on the night of October 31. For the Celts, skilled farmers who inhabited Insubria, it was the most important and spiritual moment of the year. It is a Merlot from old vines that give it a very decisive and completely unusual character and style. It could be defined as a Merlot in the Burgundian style.
It is a sublime Merlot that on the palate has great structure and energy. It accompanies large red meats in general and particularly enhances game, duck, quail and aged cheeses.
