The different facets of the passion of wine

It all began unknowingly with grandfather's cellar, referred to during childhood as "the forbidden place." A place that in my childhood imagination concealed who knows what secret. Perhaps it was the wine that was the keeper of the secret, because grandfather treated it with care and respect and let it age in that calm place, where it seemed that time had stood still. A few years later, during a language study stay in Valais, Switzerland's most important wine-growing region, that passion was born in me that enticed and pushed me to further my wine education.

Today, after much study, work and competition, I am part of the small group of 6 Sommeliers in the world to have won both the title of Best Sommelier in Europe (in 2010) and the title of Best Sommelier in the World (in 2013).

After this last competition, my career took an important, intense turn, full of commitments and opportunities, which allowed me to diversify my scope and be active as a consultant, teacher, trader and above all, wine producer.
The latter was the greatest opportunity, which convinced me to stay in Ticino to follow up on my passion and get closer to production. This choice is partly due to the location where I reside, Ligornetto, one of the wine-growing villages in Canton Ticino, and partly due to the desire to experience wine in all its aspects, from production to consumption through a multi-pronged professional activity.
As a consultant since 2014, I have been selecting wines for the airline Air France, which was awarded the coveted "Best Airline Wine List of the World" in 2018 and 2019.

In addition to consulting, I organize and animate masterclasses, tastings, seminars and events dedicated to wine.
As a teacher I train future managers in the luxury hotel industry at the Glion Institute of Higher Education in Montreux.

My company, Paolo Basso Wine, based in Ligornetto, is also active in the wine trade. Through the online Enoteca you have the opportunity to buy my five wines, as well as those of other producers I rigorously select, with whom I share a common passion: the constant and continuous search for quality, in all its facets.

These are dedicated producers, some unknown, some real stars who love their craft and the land they work and who are environmentally conscious and sustainable.
Given my experience as a sommelier, these are wines that express themselves at meraviglia the table, where, thanks to their refined and profound style, they have the distinction of enhancing food and wine pairings.
If you need advice, I am gladly at your disposal.
